Cold Steel - Competition Cutting Sword
While cutting tests with Japanese swords have been popular for many decades - also in the form of competitions - the exploration of the cutting potential of Western swords has received little to no attention until recently. Given the growing interest, Cold Steel® wants to promote this discipline and is now offering its own sword for cutting test tournaments.
Cold Steels® Competition Cutting Sword loosely based on the sword of Arbedo and is designed for cutting competitions with ropes, shipping rolls, tatami mats, and similar 'soft' materials. The thin, wide double-edged blade made of 1055 carbon steel has been tempered to spring hardness, fully sharpened, and polished.
The sturdy wooden handle covered with leather provides the option to wield the Competition Cutting Sword with one or two hands, ensuring maximum control and leverage even during more demanding maneuvers. To protect your fingers and deflect enemy blades, the sword is equipped with a simple yet effective steel crossguard. A beautiful flared steel knob with a diamond-like shape provides a good counterbalance to the wide blade.
The scope of delivery includes a sturdy sheath made of strong, black leather with a steel tip and mouthpiece.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and the relatively low levels of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed-blade knives, machetes, and swords
