Out in nature, you may have to forgo some everyday conveniences, but not hot drinks. With the teapots, pitchers, and percolators available at Meister Messer, you can heat water and prepare tea or coffee on outdoor excursions. This usually works not only over an open fire, but also on the home stove. Find out everything you need to know about "Kettles and Percolators" below.

What is a percolator and how does it work?

A percolator is a brewing system for coffee and tea. From the outside, it may look like a regular steel or stainless steel pot, but it is equipped with a filter and a riser tube. By the way, the term is derived from the Latin word "percolare," which means "to filter" in German.

Percolators can be placed in the campfire and on the grill, but can also be used on a stove. When the water starts to boil, pressure builds up. This causes it to be pushed up through a tube. There, the water drips onto the tea or coffee grounds in the sieve before slowly passing down. Depending on the model, the percolators available at Meister Messer have a capacity of one and a half to three liters.

Due to the continuous water circulation, tea and coffee brewed with a percolator taste even more intense the longer you let the water circulate in the pot. It is therefore possible to influence the strength of the hot drink yourself. However, coffee in a percolator can quickly become bitter and also contain significantly more caffeine than a regular filtered coffee.

Jugs and Percolators for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Tea is a hot infusion beverage that is now consumed in almost every corner of the world. In Asia, tea drinking has been popular for several thousand years. In Europe, however, a kind of tea culture only developed in the 17th century, after the Dutch East India Company began importing tea from India and China. By the way, the first teapots also made their way to Europe with the tea.

A teapot is characterized by a rather bulbous shape that allows the tea to unfold its aroma optimally. However, while porcelain, glass, and ceramic teapots can also be used in households, models made of metal - mostly stainless steel - are typically used outdoors. You can safely place these over a fire or hang them above it. At Meister Messer, you can get pots and teapots with a volume of up to five liters.

Cleaning jugs and percolators properly: Here's how it works

Whether you prefer tea or coffee: If a pot or percolator is used frequently, residues can build up over time that are sometimes difficult to remove with regular dish soap. Instead of using an aggressive dish cleaner, it is recommended to rely on home remedies such as vinegar, lemon juice, or baking soda. You should let these sit for several hours if possible.

If you want to clean a percolator, start by removing the filter and cleaning it from coffee or tea residues. The individual parts of the pot are best cleaned under lukewarm water and with the help of a soft sponge. In case of heavier deposits, you can also resort to the aforementioned home remedies here.
