Cold Steel - Cavalier's Rapier
In the middle of the 17 century, dueling was at the height of its popularity. This method of settling matters of honor with swords was so widespread that the French King Louis XIII legally banned dueling - out of fear of losing too many of his important dignitaries in this dangerous endeavor!
Nobles saw it as their duty as men to defend their honor with the sword. Therefore, they not only enlisted experienced instructors to expand their knowledge and skills in sword fighting but also sought new types of weapons to gain a decisive advantage. A particular sword began to gain popularity - a smaller, lighter, and faster version of the rapier, offering more comfort in carrying and being quicker in combat. This variant was a precursor to the later gala or court sword (known in the English-speaking world as the Small Sword), and is sometimes simply referred to as a transitional rapier.
Cold Steel's® interpretation of this weapon, called the Cavalier Rapier, features a sharp double-edged, very pointed blade that is significantly shorter and lighter - and therefore nimbler and more maneuverable - than a classic rapier. The pierced guard made of hardened steel, the rings, the parrying elements, and the knuckle bow provide surprisingly good protection for the hand, while the wire-wrapped grip and the balancing pommel ensure maximum comfort and agility.
The delivery includes a hand-sewn leather scabbard with a steel throat and chape, and an integrated belt hook for optimal carrying comfort.
1055 Carbon Steel
The carbon content and the relatively low amounts of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness that is inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is excellent for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
