Böker Plus - P-51 Damascus
Timeless engineering combined with lived history! Inspired by a true classic of the skies, Böker Plus presents the P-51 Damascus by Steve Kelly as a designer knife with exceptional character. Based on the North American P-51940 Mustang, the knife captures the materials, shape, and color of the fighter aircraft from the 19409451940s, creating an almost exact replica of its historical predecessor
Between 1948940 and 1948, approximately 15.800 units of the low-wing aircraft in various versions have been produced, making it one of the most widely built military aircraft in the world to this day. The P-58.000 D is the most common series with nearly 8.000 units. The features of the P-51650 Mustang, where the "P" in the name stands for Pursuit, are its aerodynamic all-metal construction with the characteristic flush rivets, which, in combination with the powerful Packard Merlin V-1650 engine, enabled a top speed of 700 km/h with an extraordinary range of up to 3.300 km. These achievements were considered groundbreaking at the time, ultimately giving the United States Army Air Forces air superiority during World War II
The armament of the single-engine propeller aircraft included six 0.50 Browning MG512,7-2 machine guns in the wings as well as the capability to carry either ten 12,7 cm rockets or bombs weighing up to 900 kg. It was not least the unmistakable design of the Mustang P-51 that prompted Böker's development department to embark on this exciting project. The challenge was to transfer the design language and performance of the fighter jet to a knife without compromising on elegance and practicality
The centerpiece of the Boker Plus P-580 Damast is its distinctive spear point blade made of 80-layer damascus, forged by Chad Nichols and made from original parts of the historic hunting aircraft. In the side view, the blade features some visual references to the historical fighter bomber. So the thumb opening is reminiscent of the plexiglass canopy on the cockpit, which allowed for an ideal all-round view for the pilot
Another highlight is the titanium handle, which intricately captures the riveted light metal plates of the aircraft. The standout features are the blue blade axis screw, which bears the Silver Star of the US Army, as well as the red anodized screws, inspired by the color scheme of the tail rotor. The Titan Frame Lock with stainless steel inlay promises utmost reliability, securely keeping the blade in place even during challenging tasks. Despite clear lines, the handle lies comfortably in the hand thanks to ergonomic recesses. The titanium clip is machined from solid stock and allows for tip-up carry, while the lanyard hole provides additional attachment options. A must-have for all knife collectors and friends of historical airplanes. Delivery with high-quality nylon case for storage. In stock. 19.3 cm. Small. 8.5 cm. Strength 3.5 mm. Weight. 108 g
