Description
RH Preyda - 5 Layer Vulcan Stone 6"
The unique construction of this sharpening stone with the layered combination of two different stones ("Soft Arkansas" -> "Soft Arkansas" and "Hartes schwarzes Arkansas") allows for simultaneous sharpening and honing in one step. The outer layers are the finer ones, so that the final contact of the cutting edge with the stone always takes place with the "Hartes schwarzes Arkansas", which provides the finishing touch. The extremely elaborate production of this exceptional stone attests to the high level of expertise of RH Preyda
ATTENTION: ARKANSAS OIL STONES SHOULD NOT BE USED DRY OR WITH WATER! ->
The oil stones from RH Preyda are hand-cut in Hot Springs in the Ouachita Mountains/Arkansas, the only place in the world where these deposits are found. The unique microcrystalline structure ensures that Arkansas oil stones with their fine grains are extremely wear-resistant and unlike other wet sharpening stones, they never need to be dressed or leveled
Made of Novaculite, these stones are based on 99,9% pure silicon, which only in this special form exhibits the unparalleled sharpness properties. Depending on the selected quality class, sharpening results can range from coarse to ultra-fine, satisfying even the most demanding user. The sharpening oil provided by RH Preyda is absolutely non-toxic and food-safe (USDA approved), allowing for safe use even with knives used for food preparation. In the case of Arkansas oilstones, the distinction is not made based on grit size, but on density. The denser the stone, the finer the sharpening result
"Soft Arkansas" -> "Soft Arkansas" | medium density | For the preliminary sharpening, the first stage in sharpening | Approximately corresponds to grain size 400-600* |
"Hard Arkansas" | high density | For the final touch on less fine cuts | Approximately corresponds to grain size 800-1000* |
"Hartes schwarzes Arkansas" | besonders high density | Harder and finer than the "Hard Arkansas", suitable for the final sharpening for most applications | Approximately corresponds to grain size 2000-3000* |
Chirurgisches Schwarzes Arkansas | ultra high density | Suitable for the finishing of particularly fine cuts; polishes the cutting edge extremely smooth. Suitable among others. for surgical tools | Approximately corresponds to grain size 4000-6000* |
Durchscheinendes Arkansas | highest possible density | The rarest of all Arkansas stones, with maximum density for the most demanding user and finely honed edges | Approximately corresponds to grain size 8000-10.000* |
*As mentioned above, these natural stones are not measurable by grit, but to provide a rough orientation, one can indicate the equivalent of a synthetic stone with grit to better assess the sharpening performance of the Arkansas oil stone |
