Cold Steel - Rapier with Ribbed Basket Hilt
According to historians, the rapier first appeared in the late 16th century. Century as a new sword form and prevailed until the late 16th. century in large parts of Europe by. In Spain, it was even demonstrably until the 18. century in use. That the rapier remained the undisputed civilian defense and duel weapon for so long can be attributed to two main advantages: Firstly, its long, narrow, double-edged blade was ideal for executing precisely targeted strikes from a distance. Secondly, its elaborately designed vessel (constantly expanded - from rings, struts, and handles to quillons and intricately chiseled baskets or bells) provided excellent protection and could intercept or deflect blows with ease.
Although the rapier has never been proven to be ineffective or outdated from a technical standpoint, it unfortunately succumbed to the dictates of fashion and had to make way for smaller swords.
Fortunately, Cold Steel® decided to revive this historical classic with its own modern interpretation designed by Dave Baker. The long, narrow blade of Cold Steel® Gerippter Muschelgegriff-Rapier is sharpened and beautifully polished. In the front third, it is equipped with a single wide hollow, ensuring perfect balance. The notebook also reflects the finest craftsmanship and materials. The classic ribbed handle basket with its many struts and the handlebar guarantee unparalleled protection for the hand. The handle itself is made of wood, covered with deep black ray skin, and wrapped with decorative wire. It closes with a sturdy ribbed pommel that excellently balances the long blade of the rapier
