Cold Steel - French Officer's Saber from 1815
Napoleon's army was famous for its organization, although the variety of different uniforms and equipment was almost unlimited. While the low-ranking soldier received the currently standard equipment, the often vanity-prone officers always sought ways to distinguish themselves through both their clothing and the presentation of their weapons. Numerous differently designed bladed weapons have been allocated, and some have even been custom-made to order. A prime example of these custom-made products is this saber forged for officers of the lancer cavalry.
This saber was beautifully balanced and had a slightly curved blade, a sharp, practical point, and a great basket hilt consisting of three bars. As a cavalry weapon, it was more than suitable for attack and could prove itself equally well in close combat. However, Cold Steel® was primarily impressed by the striking appearance of this saber. From the high-gloss polished steel to the elegant etched engravings on the blade, to the elaborately crafted fittings made of solid brass, and the richly decorated handle, it is a truly eye-catching piece.
This faithful reproduction features a high-gloss polished, combat-ready blade made of 1055 carbon steel, a leather handle with wire wrapping, a sheath made of high-gloss polished stainless steel, and a stunning, lavishly decorated scabbard with a three-bar basket.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and the relatively low levels of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed-blade knives, machetes, and swords
