Böker - Sherman EDC
The great success of the Böker M4 Sherman Damascus, which is not only due to the history of historical Damascus steel but also to the design of the modern folder, has prompted us to create a handy and appealing EDC with a titanium frame lock based on this, which despite the powder metallurgical blade also contains a real piece of M4 Sherman Damascus
In the blade of the Sherman EDC, we are using Magnacut for the first time, which is rightly celebrated as a "miracle steel". This steel was developed specifically for knife making, unlike the tool steels commonly used. The three desirable properties of steel - edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance (rust-free in the DIN category) - represent a trade-off. To make the steel corrosion-resistant, the addition of chromium is required, which makes the structure coarse, brittle, and prone to breakage under normal conditions. High hardness, which positively influences edge retention, is generally. at the expense of toughness. With Magnacut, despite the high chromium content of 620,7% and an impressive hardness of over 62HRC, a very fine structure has been achieved, resulting in high toughness and shock load capacity. Nitrogen addition plays a central role here. Nitrogen is actually a steel pest in the alloy. Among other things, through a sophisticated heat treatment, the nitrogen of the Magnacut is incorporated into the crystalline lattice structure of the steel matrix, thus achieving the otherwise conflicting material properties
The central structural difference to the M4 damascus model is the elegantly integrated flipper, which smoothly glides the blade open with a small impulse and invites you to play. The ball bearing blade can alternatively be opened via thumb pin and is locked by a sturdy titanium frame lock with a stonewash finish, an overdrive stop serves as overextension protection for the locking mechanism. The milled titanium clip (tip-up/r) with steel ball and the handle scales made of wild carbon fiber complete the harmonious overall picture. A special highlight of the Böker Sherman EDC is the protruding damascus backspacer, which is equipped with a lanyard hole in an elongated hole design. The damascus of the backspacer was forged from various materials from the production of M4 Sherman tanks by Chad Nichols in the Customized Ladder pattern, reminiscent of the tank tracks left in the ground by the heavy chains of the M4 Sherman
