Shortly before his departure to the Wall to take up his service with the Night's Watch, Ned Stark's bastard son Jon Snow left his homeland of WinterfellJon Snow) to craft this shortsword by Mikken, the blacksmith of Winterfell, to give it to his youngest half-sister Arya Stark. Since Arya herself was small and slight, this thin, lightweight sword was specially tailored to her. Due to its shape and in reference to the shared sewing work with her older sister Sansa, Arya named the sword Nadel.
