Fällkniven - Idun Northern Light NL5 Outdoor Knife

In Norse mythology, Idun was the goddess of fertility and was responsible for guarding the apples that ensured the gods' eternal youth. For many, she was also a symbol of love and rebirth, and in a famous poem she was referred to as the beloved of the gods (ása leika). Unlike previous knife models of the Northern Lights series, the NL5 is somewhat rounder and softer in shape, making it an excellent choice as a hunting knife. The straight, quite generous leather handle provides full control over the powerfully laminated VG10 blade. The NL5 is as attractive as it is effective, especially in the hands of the experienced hunter. The Northern Light series spared no effort to make this knife as strong, beautiful, and comfortable as possible. The knife is a pleasure and a thrill to use

The laminated blade is forged with a cutting edge made of VG4200 steel core, and the sides are made of a durable, fully stainless 420J2 steel. This excellent metal combination combines all conceivable and desirable knife properties such as elasticity, torque resistance, and edge retention in a single blade

The 5 mm thick blade itself is sufficiently strong for all practical tasks, but with the laminated technology, one can expect an additional strength of 20% in terms of flexural strength compared to an unlaminated VG10 blade

The beautiful handle is made of specially selected cowhide, which provides a secure and sturdy grip. He ages with elegance and develops an attractive brown patina over the years. The handle is unaffected by oil and solvents and waterproof. If the cowhide dries out, small cracks may appear on the handle, but they will disappear when the knife is used again

The convex edge profile can only be made by hand, which is why only very few of our knives have this type of edge. Machines play a major role in the production of knives, and CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) robots and grinding machines shape the blades as best they can. The machines are equipped with stacks of blanks, so that production can run 24 hours a day and the result is often quite good. Well, good for the price nonetheless. However, if you desire the highest strength, enormous corrosion resistance, edge retention, and custom design, no machine can match the craftsmanship of a skilled and experienced knife maker.
