Fällkniven - Frej Northern Light NL4 Outdoor Knife

Frey was the god of peace in Norse mythology, but also the god who rules over fertility and prosperity. He was king of the trolls and elves, beings that until recently were still part of the farmers' everyday life. Model NL4 Frey is not only a beautiful and well-maintained knife - as the blade is made of laminated VG10 steel, the knife is relatively strong and by no means unwieldy. The Northern Light series spared no effort to make the knife as strong, beautiful, and comfortable as possible. The knife is a pleasure and a thrill to use

The blade is made of laminated VG100 steel, with the cutting edge made of our well-known VG100 steel and the sides made of tough, fully stainless 2J2 steel. This combination is good as it combines all conceivable and desirable properties such as load capacity, torque resistance, and edge resistance in one sheet. A blade that is 5 mm thick would be strong enough for most tasks on its own - with the laminate technology, one can expect an additional strength of 20% in terms of flexural strength compared to a conventional VG10 blade

The handle is made of specially selected cowhide: unfortunately a material that is often overlooked by manufacturers, but it provides a secure and sturdy grip. It ages beautifully over the years, developing an attractive brown patina, is unaffected by oil and solvents, and is waterproof. Dryness can lead to small cracks in the handle, which will disappear when the knife is used again

We insist on the convex grind, as we consider this to be the ultimate combination of cutting performance and edge retention, and of course, our NL4 Frej knife features it. Anyone who knows anything about knife making is aware that such a grind can only be achieved by hand, which is why 99,99% of all knives have a convex grind. Most knives are naturally produced in series, with CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) robots and grinding machines shaping the blades as well as possible. The machines are equipped with stacks of blades, so that production can run 24 hours a day and the result is often really good - good knives at affordable prices. However, if you desire the highest strength, corrosion resistance, edge retention, and design, a machine has not been built that can come close to the craftsmanship of a trained, experienced knife maker.
