Cold Steel - Large Sword with Sheath - Man-at-Arms Series
This is the Man at Arms (MAA) version of Cold Steels® original large knife (Item No. CST-88GMS).
The medieval man-at-arms (engl. man-at-arms) was a brave, loyal fighter full of martial heroism, mastering a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often the first to charge into combat, and although he was not a knight, he fought and trained side by side with them as a brother-in-arms. In honor of these rugged, devoted mercenaries, Cold Steel® has brought forth the Man at Arms weapon collection. Compared to Cold Steel's® premium editions, these battle-ready weapons may lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but in terms of quality and performance, the MAA series products come close to the other products. The fully sharpened, blued blades are distinguished by their unmistakable gun-metal finish, which perfectly harmonizes with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of Cold Steel's® finest blades, but at a significantly lower price. If you have always wanted to own a Cold Steel® edged weapon but could never afford it, then this collection is made for you.
In German lands known as Grosses Messer, this sword was used in old times throughout Central and Northern Europe by both squires and peasants alike to protect home and hearth from highwaymen, murderers, brigands, and other characters of ill repute. Thanks to its stately, broad blade and generously designed handle, it could be wielded both one-handed and two-handed. This made it possible to cut through chainmail or cleave a man in half with a single blow. This version of this simple and elegant, yet particularly powerful weapon features a sharp, hand-forged carbon steel blade 1055. The guard and the stately pommel are made of blued steel. The wooden grip scales are riveted to the full tang that extends to the pommel.
For comfort and safety, a robust, beautiful leather sheath is provided. Matching the guard and pommel, the sheath is reinforced with a chape and a throat piece made of blued steel.
1055 Carbon Steel
The carbon content and the relatively low amounts of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness that is inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is excellent for blades that need to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
