Böker - Bronco
When designing our new fixed-blade outdoor knife Böker BRONCO, we set ourselves ambitious goals. It should be at the cutting edge of technological possibilities and offer optimal functionality in terms of modern needs. For this purpose, it should have the following features:
-Universal and optimal usability for all professional outdoor users such as: Bushcrafters, campcrafters, survivalists, long-distance hikers, hunters, SAR teams, and others
-A blade made of CPM steel at the highest level of metallurgical possibilities
-A handle that is comfortable to hold even during long work sessions, completely encloses the continuous tang, and does not conduct heat away from the hand in cold weather
-A high-quality leather sheath that can be worn with or without a dangler, protecting the knife from loss and damage, featuring a holder for a firesteel and equipped with one
-100% Production at the location Solingen/Germany
-A moderate price in terms of features
We were able to meet these ambitious requirements in the following way: The CPM-3V was developed by Crucible Industries LLC - the specialist and global market leader for powder metallurgy steels - to ensure an unprecedented shock load tolerance, fracture elasticity, and chip resistance at an incredible edge retention and hardness of 663-63 HRC. These properties of the powder metallurgical carbon steel were achieved, among other things, by a precisely adjusted chromium content of 7,5%. In this way, the positive properties of the alloying element Cr, such as increased wear resistance and hardenability, could be utilized while maintaining a fine microstructure
The universal wide drop point blade with a high saber grind has always been the hunter's preferred shape for both large and small game, and is also suitable for delicate tasks such as feathering sticks as well as for more heavy-duty tasks like the obligatory batoning. The pommel is continuous and protrudes a few millimeters from the end of the handle. This ensures maximum stability and the fishing rod can also withstand strong impacts with a round stick or other object. A short section of the blade spine forms sharp 90° edges on both sides for striking sparks from the included fire starter. The handle material chosen is TPE - thermoplastic elastomer - which completely encloses the shaft and is provided with a grippy structure in every load direction. TPE is resistant, elastic, non-slip, and has low thermal conductivity. So the knife is securely held in the hand in all weather and working conditions, and does not lose power from the fingers in wet and cold conditions. In contrast to ordinary elastomers, TPE also has the advantage of relieving the environment in production, as it occurs purely physically and eliminates the lengthy and energy-intensive vulcanization of chemically crosslinked elastomers
The equipment includes a quiver leather sheath - the king's discipline in sheath construction - with a deep and firm fit of the knife. The knife is thus best protected against loss and damage when carried, without requiring a vulnerable safety mechanism that hinders quick access. A detachable dangler allows for either a high carry position on the belt or a low position under the hip belt of the touring backpack. In addition, the knife is equipped with a 9,3 mm fire starter / Metalmatch from the market leader Light My Fire, which fits snugly in a wide, securely integrated leather loop in the sheath.
Thus, the Boker BRONCO becomes a compact, versatile, and complete wilderness and survival tool that is up to any situation
