Battle Merchant - Niedermörmter Italic H Roman Helmet Steel and Brass
Type according to H.R. Robinson: Imperial Italic H Continental Classification: Type Weisenau - Niedermörmter / Guttmann
Faithful reconstruction of the 'AG 800' from the famous former collection of Axel Guttmann, which was dissolved and auctioned off a few years ago. The river find is said to come from the Balkans, but the exact location is unknown
After the figurative decorations, the helmet is also called 'mouse and loaf of bread'. While the typical round bread shape is known from finds in a bakery in Pompeii, the mouse or rat was a commonly encountered symbol that also appeared on lamps or knife handles.
The helmet corresponds to a similar find from the Lower Rhine town of Niedermörmter (Germany). Compared to the previous 'Weisenau' models, the neck protection is now particularly extensive, a response to the opponents and their weaponry at the time. The missing cheek flaps, which were not present in the original, have been reconstructed through extensive research.
Here, the magnificent original is reproduced down to the intricate lattice pattern of the brow bar in every detail.
Dating: Mainly second half of the 2. 1 pc. n. Chrome. up to beginning 3. 1 pc. n. Chrome.
