Battle Merchant - German Cup-Hilt Rapier 17th Century
This reconstruction of a German rapier with a curved guard. "swept-hilt rapier") from the early 17. 1 pc. features a narrow, very pointed blade made of spring steel EN45 with a diamond-shaped cross-section and sharp point. The blades are not sharpened and the full tang is screwed onto the handle end (steel threaded nut). The complex, elegant hilt with an S-shaped guard and one-sided guard ring is made of mild steel, as is the pommel. The handle is made of a wooden core wrapped with alternating layers of brass wire and braided steel wire. A wooden scabbard covered in black leather with a steel mouthpiece and tip band is included in the delivery.
The rapier entered at approximately. 17500 first appeared and remained the favorite sword of the European nobility and upper bourgeoisie until the end of the 17. century. This one-handed, typically double-edged Renaissance rapier with a long, slender blade and sharp point was primarily designed as a thrusting weapon, but could still be quite effective when used as a cutting weapon. It was mainly used by the nobility for military as well as civilian purposes and was usually equipped with a more or less elaborately designed basket, bell, or hilt vessel, which provided better protection for the hand, whether on the battlefield or in a duel. This bladed weapon, found in various forms throughout Europe, was widely popular as a fencing, self-defense, or dueling weapon, eventually becoming a status symbol and essential accessory in the wardrobe of every nobleman or officer.
