Training Knives

Training knives are used in a variety of applications. They are used, for example, by knife throwers and martial artists. But also the forces of the police and army resort to appropriate knives to practice for emergencies. You will find a wide selection of training knives at Meister Messer. In addition, you will learn here how training knives differ from conventional models.

What distinguishes training knives?

Training knives are primarily used to minimize the risk of injury during knife training. Therefore, they are mostly made of rubber or wood. However, there are also training knives made of metal, which have blunt – that is, not sharpened – blades. Whether a model made of rubber or metal is more suitable in a specific case depends on which exercises (such as disarming and leverage techniques) are to be performed with the knife. Many training knives are replicas or even 1:1 copies of well-known knife models. The design is often based on classic combat knives, but sometimes also on karambits, kukris, and medieval daggers.

Serious injury is almost impossible with a training knife. However, since the material still has a certain hardness (especially true for aluminum training knives), it is recommended to at least protect the face appropriately. Special eye or fencing masks are particularly suitable for this purpose.

Who needs training knives?

As their appearance is modeled after real knives, training knives allow for extremely realistic training. This type of knife is particularly suitable for solo and disarming exercises, as well as for show fights and demonstrations where it would be too dangerous to use a real knife. In addition, training knives are also used in martial arts - for example, in Krav Maga.

Train with a practice knife: Tips for beginners

If you want to practice how to defend yourself in case of a knife attack or how to efficiently use a knife for defense, you have various options. One option is to participate in a special course at a martial arts school. However, you can also rely on books and videos to get a first overview of the topic. Tutorials can be found, for example, on YouTube.

How much does a training knife cost?

The cost of a training knife depends primarily on the material it is made of. Rubber training knives are available for as little as 20 to 30 Swiss Francs. If you opt for a metal model, you can expect higher costs. The higher price is mainly due to the more expensive material. However, purchasing a training knife is usually significantly cheaper than buying the original model.
