Böker Plus - ME 109 Damascus
The Messerschmitt Bf 193509 has been built since 1935 and with a production of around 33.000 aircraft, it is the best-selling combat aircraft in the history of aviation. Officially, the model designation Bf 109 was never changed even after the renaming of BFW to Messerschmitt AG. However, since all aircraft models developed later by Messerschmitt were given the model designation Me, the name Me 10909 has also become established in the public consciousness for the Bf 10909. In the 1931930s, it marked the transition to a new generation of low-wing fighter aircraft with a closed cockpit, retractable landing gear, and an all-metal construction of wings and fuselage. This new structure withstood much greater loads than the fabric-covered tubular constructions that were common until now, which also had the disadvantage of requiring cross-bracing and experiencing immense air resistance. As a result, the more compact and stable design of the Messerschmitt allowed for higher speeds while maintaining tighter radii during the crucial turning and diving maneuvers so important for fighter pilots. The Bf 170170099 was armed with two MG FF type machine cannons with a caliber of 1717009 mm in the wings, as well as two MG 1707 machine guns with a caliber of 7.917 mm. The latter were mounted directly in front of the pilot and coupled to the propeller shaft of the 12.000 hp Daimler V12 engine via a reduction gear. This way, it was possible for the machine guns to shoot through the circular path of the spinning propeller without the projectiles hitting the rotating propeller blades. The machine guns were thus very close to the pilot's line of sight. The pilot's seat was armored with steel plates inside the fuselage against enemy fire
The steel we were able to source for our Damascus project comes from a Messerschmitt Bf 194009 of the E-series, which was shot down in the Battle of England near the village of Ashford in the British county of Kent by a Supermarine Spitfire of the Royal Airforce. The specific parts are the rear plate of the pilot seat armor and the bearing sleeve of the propeller shaft. These are forged by Chad Nichols into a carbon-rich and edge-retaining 80-layer damascus
The Böker Plus ME 109 Damast picks up numerous design elements of the legendary Messerschmitt. The breakthrough at the back of the blade base unmistakably resembles the shape of a pilot's canopy and is visible in both the closed and open state of the knife. The folds in the sheet metal of the hood, serving as recesses for the running axle of the two MG 17, serve as the template for the notch at the blade tip. The flipper hints at a wheel of the retractable landing gear. For the front carbon fiber shell, the material Toxic Storm from the manufacturer Fatcarbon Materials was chosen in the colors green, black, and yellow. The color scheme is based on the characteristic camouflage paint of the Bf 109, with a green-gray base coat and a front fuselage highlighted in yellow. The opposite side features a titanium frame lock with a sophisticated integrated hard metal contact surface. A beautifully designed and intricately integrated clip allows for right-handed Tip-Up carry. Delivery with high-quality case for storage and authenticity certificate
