Description
Battle Merchant - Viking Sax with wire-wrapped handle
Although the Sax (also Skramasax referred to) is mostly associated with the Vikings, it was widespread in all Germanic, Scandinavian, and Saxon/Anglo-Saxon societies from the Migration Period to the early Middle Ages. It was worn by both men and women and was a versatile blade that was used as a weapon of war, an everyday tool, or a status symbol. Historical examples show that this particular type of knife or dagger could vary not only in shape and design, but also in quality – findings range from simple, roughly crafted specimens to magnificent, elaborately decorated showpieces – and size.
When it comes to size, the handcrafted Viking Age seax knife that we offer here is on the threshold between a long dagger and a short sword. It features a single-edged, unsharpened blade made of EN45 spring steel with a sturdy spine, a sharp point, and a full tang that is screwed onto the pommel. The guard and pommel are both cast from steel, and the handle with a wooden core is tightly wrapped with wire. All components have been blackened, making the handle a real eye-catcher and giving the early medieval knife a stylish, yet dark and rustic character
The Viking dagger is delivered with a sturdy, high-quality sheath made of 4 mm thick, vegetable-tanned leather with a beautiful braided seam.
Please note that this Viking seax is not suitable for combat. It is intended as a collector's item or. Designed as a decorative object, but also excellent as a prop (e.g. to complete your costume) and will simply perfect your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior!
