Description
Battle Merchant - Sword of the Munich City Guard
There are several originals of these swords in various private and public collections, one in the Wallace Collection and several in the Bavarian National Museum, after which this replica was created. It is a perfect example of a German military cutting and thrusting sword, which was worn by the Munich city guard around 1600. The slightly shorter blade and the sturdy handle were perfect for ending a street brawl or a tavern fight, as the city guard often did, and were clearly intended for practical use
The blade is made of well-hardened 1065 steel with high carbon content. The pommel and the guard are made of steel, and the handle is made of wood wrapped with twisted steel wire to ensure a very firm grip. The blade is not sharpened. This sword comes with a leather scabbard
