Description
Hanwei - Tinker Bastard Sword Sharp
Michael 'Tinker' Pearce has designed a series of Hanwei swords made from 1516065160 steel, combining authenticity, functionality, and performance
To meet the varying needs of Western martial artists, each of the seven swords, all of which offer excellent handling, is available in both a sharp and a blunt version. The careful heat treatment of the (preferred by Tinker) 5160 steel through austempering (English: marquenching) results in an excellent combination of strength and flexibility with a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This enables the sharp blades to have higher edge retention, while preventing burr formation in the dull models and ensuring the safety-related flexibility of the tip
For each type of sword in this series, replacement blades are available, except for the Early Viking Sword. A key feature of Tinker's designs is that the blades are interchangeable. This gives you the opportunity to purchase a complete sword plus a spare blade, so you can use both the sharp and the blunt version. All longswords, bastard swords, and early medieval swords feature Tinker's special assembly system with internal hexagon socket cap nuts, allowing for easy blade replacement using an Allen key and ensuring that the handle remains securely attached.
The one-and-a-half-handed swords (Oakeshott Type XVIIIA) are designed so that both the sharp and blunt versions feel equally balanced in the hand. Both during training and in combat, the swords feel and behave the same. The sharp sword is also produced in two slightly different versions: It is available with a blade featuring a continuous diamond-shaped cross-section (item number HN-SH2400) as well as in an (otherwise identical) version that has a hollow grind along approximately one third of its length (item number HN-SH2411). The rounded knob is designed to serve as a handle for the second hand when needed, and the straight guard provides excellent protection for the hand. The handle features a hardwood core wrapped in cord, covered in leather, and equipped with steel fittings. A leather-covered sheath is included in the delivery.
