Battle Merchant - Late Roman Ceremonial Helmet from Berkasovo
Description
Battle Merchant - Late Roman Ceremonial Helmet from Berkasovo
Following the typical helmet shape of the late Imperial period, the find from Berkasovo (today Serbia) stands out for its extremely rich decoration with gemstones, as well as gold and silver applications. The numerous components explain its high weight: over 4 kg. The rich decorations suggest a former wearer of the highest officer rank.
Our helmet has a sewn-in inlay made of red leather, and the ornaments are made of glass. The helmet is padded on both the cheek flaps and the neck protection.
